A New Website For Phagenesis

By Wayne Silcock

We recently completed our first project for Phagenesis, a Manchester company leading the way in treating dysphagia - a difficulty in swallowing that can occur following a stroke.

Phagenesis have developed a revolutionary new treatment, called Phagenyx, and we were approached to work with the company in developing a new website to support the launch. The website needed to appeal to doctors and hospital staff who want to purchase the machine, and also carers and patients who are looking for more information on the treatment.

The explanation of the treatment is supported with a short animation that provides an overview of the treatment that we worked closely with the team to create. The animation can be viewed below, it gives an insight into how the system works, and how treatment is administered.

In addition to the web work we have also developed a series of informative diagrams and leaflets to help patients understand the treatment and what to expect. These leaflets help make the treatment accessible to patients suffering from the cognitive effects of a stroke, such as Aphasia, where the patient has lost the use of language.

The materials have been developed alongside the charity Speak Easy with input from groups of people suffering from different levels of affliction. This gave us an invaluable insight into how our designs needed to be tailored to be understood by the patients. Details in colour, linework, layout, language and typography were all tested to ensure the message was properly communicated to the patient and importantly, minimised their stress when faced with the treatment.

The product was launched in Barcelona on Oct 25th and they are receiving a great deal of interest.
