Behind the Studio Doors
By Charlotte HodgenAt Absolute, we’re passionate about nurturing the next generation of creative talent. Partnering with local universities like UCLan, we’ve had the privilege of hosting some incredible students who have enriched our team with fresh perspectives, enthusiasm, and curiosity.
We sat down with two of our recent placement students, Olivia and Grace, to reflect on their time with us. Their insights, energy, and stories perfectly encapsulate what makes fostering young talent so rewarding.
Q&A with Olivia Hayward – UCLan 2024

Name one thing that surprised you during your time at Absolute.
I didn’t expect to be a part of live briefs for clients like Man City!
Is there anything you wish you had done differently?
I wish I spoke up more in terms of asking for feedback and advice. I learnt even more from asking questions and being curious!
Do you have a message for our next placement?
Time flies! So get stuck in and make the most out of your time here.
In one word, describe your time here with us.
Wholesome.
If you could steal one thing from the studio, what would it be?
The design books! (Or the table tennis table so I could practise).
How would you like us to remember you?
The book wrecker.

How creative and inspiring the team is.
Is there anything you wish you had done differently?
Learn even more skills off all of them.
Do you have a message for our next placement?
Be your authentic bubbly self and try to be as confident as you can. And stay positive.
In one word, describe your time here with us.
Encouraging.
If you could steal one thing from the studio, what would it be?
All the books that are piled on my desk, e.g., Simon's book collection that has everything about design.
How would you like us to remember you?
A ball of positivity.

Hearing from Olivia and Grace has reminded us of how much we can learn from the energy and curiosity of fresh perspectives. Hosting students isn’t just about teaching—it’s about growing together, tackling new challenges, and seeing things in new ways.
Their advice to future placements? Be curious, embrace every moment, and stay true to yourself. We couldn’t agree more!
